Exposure of Criminology Students On Social Networking Sites: Input to Reduce Cyber Crime Violations

The study assessed the exposure of Criminology students on social networking sites and its input to reduce the incidents of cybercrime violations committed by the students at Isabela State University– Cauayan City, Isabela. Utilizing the quantitative - descriptive research method, data were taken from the 20 student respondents and were analyzed using the frequency, percentage, rank, and arithmetic mean. Research findings reveal that majority of the respondents are within the age bracket of 19-20 years old, single, male, and second to third-year college students. The Criminology students assessed the utilization of social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram having a high-risk influence on students’ academic life. The negative effects of social networking sites were utilized for stalking, cyber-bullying, to ruin relationships, and can cause distractions. The intervention activities suggested by the students in the utilization of social networking include the prohibition of mobile phone use during classes. Thus, parents are advised to regulate the students’ mobile phone use, and that faculty should strictly implement the policy on the student manual related to mobile phone utilization. Related hereto, students should exercise self-discipline, and observe the integration of on-line ethics in classes.
